Civil Weddings

If you are dreaming of the perfect wedding abroad then Copenhagen is the right destination. This beautiful Scandinavian City is an ideal location for a dream wedding as magical as a fairytale written by Hans Christian Andersen. Every year hundreds of foreign couples come to get married here. Copenhagen is especially known for gay weddings as Same-sex marriage became legal in Denmark on 15 June 2012.
You can get married in the beautiful Copenhagen City Hall, Frederiksberg Town Hall or have a registrar to come at any location you wish. You can get married at a castle, hotel, on a boat sailing through the canals or even at the beach. All you need to do is to organize some details and paperwork  from home. You need to download and  fill in an application form with both of  your personal data and send it to the Municipality of Copenhagen. You need to also send the examination fee receipt as so they can proceed with your wedding application.
The documents and certificates you need are the following: Copy of the main page of your passport, valid visa or proof of entry of arrival in Denmark, certificate of marital status (not older than four months). You can send copies of the documents with your wedding application. When you arrive you need to have all the original documents with you, when asked by the authorities in Copenhagen. The examination fee for getting married in Copenhagen in 2016 is  500 DKK and you need to pay it as you submit the documents. You can do that by forwarding the payment receipt to the municipality of Copenhagen. Wedding ceremonies taking place at any other locations than Copenhagen or Frederiksberg city hall require an additional fee of approximately 2,500 DKK.
